But with the state’s careful coronavirus restrictions now beginning to lift, and golf permitted, some were desperate to get back out on the course.

St Kilda great Nick Dal Santo was one of those, as he made it out there on Wednesday for an early tee time.

And we mean extremely early. 12:05AM, to be exact.

Dal Santo went out onto the Brighton Public Golf Course last night, using glow-in-the-dark balls, tees and flags to be one of the first in Victoria to resume playing.

“I’ve been missing football and golf – golf is my release. I’ve been missing it for what feels like a lifetime,” Dal Santo said as part of a Cobra Puma promotion.

“I was excited, I couldn’t sleep, and I thought why not come down and be first to tee off at 12am.”

A ‘runway strip’ along the fairway of neon poles helped guide Dal Santo.

“I actually hit them surprisingly well – maybe there’s something in that that I actually do better when I can’t see my club face hitting the ball,” he said.
